Wonderful show, disastrous venue setup
I'll begin with the positive aspects. One OK Rock delivered a solid opening act. Rilo Kiley, known for their special brand of music, put on a great show with various stage spectacles and expert performances. Evanescence, as always, was great. The sound was generally well mixed, but there were instances where the vocals of both Evanescence and Rilo Kiley were a bit low.
Now for the criticisms. The doors opened at 5:33 pm, close to on time. However, for a bizarre reason, security did not permit the use of stairs or escalators located right next to the entrances. This led to a half-hour wait with a large crowd entering the arena concourse before the stairs were accessible. The delayed entry to the upper levels posed a potential safety hazard, as the seating area entryways were still blocked by security. Whether this safety concern fell on the United Center or the stage setup crews, the added element of danger during what was mostly a trouble-free concert was not appreciated.
